Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has sensationally written off England’s chances of winning the World Cup - even though nine of his squad are battling to win a place in Fabio Capello’s plans.

Ireland's hopes of being granted a replay of their controversial World Cup qualifier play-off second leg with France have collapsed after Fifa ruled out the possibility of re-staging the match.

The FIA had written to football's governing body and the French FA to formally request a replay after Thierry Henry's clear handball led to the deciding goal in extra time. But Fifa have responded, categorically denying the Irish any hopes of a rematch.

Days summary

Italy vs Hungary

There were four red cards, five goals, but only one winner as Hungary defeated Italy 3-2 after extra time to book a place in the semi-finals of Egypt 2009.

The game began in the most dramatic of circumstances when Matteo Gentili shoved Krisztian Nemeth in the box in the opening minute. Up stepped skipper Vladimir Koman for the resulting penalty and he sent Vincenzo Fiorillo the wrong way to give Hungary an early lead. The goal not only gave the Hungarians ...

Am I right in thinking that in the past seven seasons the big four have only been broken up twice: in 2002/03 by Newcastle and in 2004/05 by Everton?

Anyway, its been a fact for the past two seasons that there has been somewhat of a domination by Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool.
Is this the season that it will be broken into again by a young pretender and if so, at the expense of who?

Yes, you read that correctly. Liverpool captain, Steven Gerrard, is definitely not known for his headers, but managed to put two into the back of the net against Croatia. It doesn’t appear that any of the squad picked up injuries during the break, so we can all breathe a sigh of relief.

Goal videos after the bump.

Sorry, but there is no better time to bring this debate to head as its one that I've noticed on these boards.

I've seen Lennon ever since the days he came through at Leeds at 16, he grew up in Chapeltown which is down the road from where I live, so I have my own opinion,

but whats the general consensus on here?

Not whether Lennon is World Class, or overrated, or anything like that.

Simply, as footballers go, I just want to know what people think when they watch him play- is ...
