300 up for Stevie

2005 - Steven Gerrard played his 300th reds game, converting a late penalty with Xabi Alonso then also scoring as we won 2-0 at Aston Villa.

First ever defeat

1892 - We registered our first ever competitive defeat as we lost 3-0 to Blackpool in the Lancashire League at their Raikes Hall Gardens ground.

Rushie back in action

1988 - Ian Rush scored his first goal since his return from Juventus as we beat newly promoted Middlesbrough 3-0 at Anfield to remain in fourth spot. John Aldridge and Peter Beardsley were also on target.

On the way to Gay Paree

1980 - We thumped Alex Ferguson's Aberdeen 4-0 at Anfield to progress to the Third Round of the European Cup 5-0 on aggregate. We scored through a Willie Miller own goal, Phil Neal, Kenny Dalglish's header and Alan Hansen. Our next opponents were Bulgarians CSKA Sofia the following March.
